Getting Stronger.....Mentally & Physically!

7.15.10

Today, I had my weekly "hardcore" workout with Tonya. I got up and ran 4 miles this morning and then met her at 1:30 in the afternoon. Yes, it was hot (NOT dangerously hot as we would not have done the workout) but I was drained and exhausted quicker. My workout was easier than day 1, but it was still very, very tough! I know I've made lots of progress but still have a long way to go. What I do know is that I am stronger, more confident and deal with my emotions and stress differently. As many of you know I am training to run a half marathon August 14th. On sunday I will run 9 miles as part of my training - Are any of you planning to run in August or run the one on 10.10.10? I hope some of you who are thinking of doing it, will do it! If I can do this, really, anyone can! Anyone who is ready to CONSISTENTLY commit to the HARD WORK that it takes!

Lab Results Are In!

7.13.10

I went to my regular doctor today to get the results of my lab work. My lab came back great, including my thyroid, except my good cholesterol or HDL. It was 30 and should be greater than 50. Basically, it should get higher as I am exercising and eating well. My OBGYN has told me in the last year that I have PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I am just now researching more about this but have been told that it is harder for women, who have PCOS, to lose weight - even when eating right and exercising. Not Fair!!! But, this could be the reason why my pounds aren't dropping as fast as they should, considering all that I am doing. My plan, is to continue exercising, eating right and let my body do what it needs to do. I want to lose the weight, as my BMI would go down, however - I'm not going to focus on the number. Losing inches, body fat, feeling great, clothes fitting better and getting my good cholesterol up will make me happy. Please let me know if any of you have had problems and what you did or are doing to correct the problem!

One Month Down.....The Rest Of My Life To Go!

7.11.10

Tonya and I met this morning to weigh, measure, take pics etc. Today is one month for my Mom On A Mission Challenge! Tonya decided to wait and weigh me later in the week, since I was on my period. I know after she measured me I lost .25 inches in my waist. I'm happy with that, but I would like to see more and faster results. I know it takes time. In one months time I've lost 9 total inches, 4% on body fat and gained 2% muscle - Not Bad! Back in June, Tonya and I had our first meeting. During that meeting we set 1 month, 2 month goals and so on. So, we reevaluated them today. My one month goal was to not cheat at all with my nutrition, eat less red meat and more chicken and turkey. I have done VERY well with this goal! I've been in a few social/family gatherings where there was a lot of food and drinks. It is VERY hard - but I did not cheat. Now, I have had a little hummas with carrots, some guacamole on my hamburger pattie and have eaten some "allowed" carbs before long run days. I'm in hopes that after 2 months I can start making recipes and adding in more foods (Tonya will direct me when she thinks I am ready). My 2 month goal was to consistently workout 6 days a week. Well I've definitely accomplished that goal - some weeks I workout 7 days a week. So, I've changed my 2 month gloal to be able to run 10-12 miles without stopping and to never be in the 170lb range again (I'm almost there)! Also, I had wrote down negative people/situations that would hold me back from getting to any of my goals. I was able to cross those items off the list that I've delt with or obstacles that I've put to the wayside, knowing that I will not let it effect my eating or excercise. It felt very good to cross items off my list. Now, there are still some things on my list - it is a work in progress! I feel really good with my progress in one month. I am VERY positive and excited to see where I will be on 10.10.10 - of course, that is when my Mom On A Mission Journey will end - However, it will just be the beginning of the rest of my life!

8 Mile Run - I Did It!!!

7.10.10

I can't believe I Did it!!! I ran 8 miles without stopping this morning. The last two miles were very, very hard but I kept going! After 6 miles I was at the corner of 29th and Rock, so I ran into our boutique (Rylee & Reece) - still jogging even at this point - and my mom gave me a cold rag to wipe on may face and neck - thanks mom! Then as I rounded the corner at 29th and Webb for my last mile I started getting chills and goose bumps on my legs - it was the wierdest thing ever. I was so happy that when I called Tonya to tell her I had finished I was crying happy tears, or exhausted ones I'm not sure! On a VERY personal note, I got home from my run and realized I had started my period. I have not blogged about my hormonal battle yet - but need to now. This is a huge deal that I started because I haven't had my period (without doctors starting it) in a year. My OBGYN has monitored me during the last year - and lets just say I've been all messed up. The doctor was about to start my period again, with medicine, (he has started it for me twice in the past year) but I'm happy to say that won't have to happen. I did do lab tests last week and I go see my regular doctor Tuesday to get the results. So, with all of this said - we have been a little suprised that will all I've done the pounds are not coming off quickly. So, hormonally I may have more of a problem. We will know soon - hopefully! I know losing the inches, pounds, body fat and gaining the muscle - I feel this is what my body needed to have a cycle. I will be resting today as I will meet with Tonya tomorrow to do pictures, measurements and stats. Tomorrow will be one month - Boy, do I feel GREAT!

There is NO magic pill...just HARD WORK!!!

America is the fatest (and still growing) nation.  We are 66% over weight or obese.  Heart disease is the number one killer of women right now.  What amazes me is that someone that is obese or over weight is not effected by these numbers.  WHY you ask:  because majority of them think there is an EASY FIX!  Guess what?  There's not!!!

American's spend 33 billon dollars a year on diet pills and like I said above we are getting fatter as a nation!  What is even more devasting is 20% of kids walking into kindergarten are over weight.  Our nation is dying slowing.

So if there was an easy and quick fix then why is our nation not getting more slim and healthy with all these diet pills and nutritional supplements?  Because there is NO QUICK FIX!

It takes hard work everyday- FOR EVERYONE (even me)!  To get in the habit of living a healthy lifestyle you have to do it over and over again everyday!  What should you do you ask:
1.  Make short term and long term goals.
2.  Plan out when you are going to workout each day.
3.  Plan what you are going to eat each day and what time.
4.  Keep a food journal.
5.  Keep a personal journal.
6.  Get a support group:  spouse, significant other, family, friends, kids, etc.
7.  Make healthy choices with food and exercise
8.  Exercise 5-6 days a week.
9.  Stay consistent.
10.  Educate yourself

Living healthy is hard for today's society.  But we have choices everyday!  It is up to you what you are going to put in your mouth and if you are going to exercise.  Let's help America stay a live longer!  Take care of yourself.  Exercise and healthy eating is the best medicine a doctor can perscribe!

In health,
Tonya

Difficult Weekend; Back On Track!

7.5.10

Happy 4th of July everyone! This weekend has been very difficult for me. I am a person that needs a strict schedule, diet, workout plan etc. That is how I've always been. The more strict it is, the better I do. I know many people think and say - that it is not reality to NOT have a slice of pizza with the kids, or have the drink when you socialize. For me, I CAN'T have the pizza, the drink etc. I know myself and right NOW in the middle of losing a lot of weight I can't at all let myself have a "moment." I know in the future, future I can in major moderation have SOME foods that I can't have right now. Anyway - my weekend seemed out of control due to my schedule being thrown off my normal, everyday life. My son ran a high fever on Friday and after taking him to the doctor, we got an antibotic for strep. My goal was to run 7 miles Saturday morning, with my sister-in-law Heather, but I was up in the night with him and too tired to go the distance, so we decided to go Sunday morning instead. On Sunday morning, Heather wasn't feeling good plus it was raining so we didn't go again. I decided to wait it out and go later on in the day. As you all know the rain did not stop and got worse at times. With a horrible attitude (because I hate running inside on the track or on a treadmill - especially 7 miles) I went to the Andover Y and ran on the track. I had to run 56 laps to go 7 miles - Are you kidding me??? So, no suprise it was not a good run day. I ended up running 2 miles, walking 1 mile, running 2, walking 1 etc.

We celebrated the 4th at my moms house with our family. My brothers and sister-n-laws were so awesome to create a healthy menu. Not only did they want to eat healthy, but for me as well. We had a variety of grilled and smoked meats, a big salad and potatoes (of course I did not eat those along with the desserts.) This helped my temptations but I'm also getting used to being around sweets and carbs that I can't have. My brother, Shelby, was awesome to create a dessert for me called "Sledge" - it is very healty and taste like cake batter. If anyone is interested let me know and I can get you the recipe. The worst thing I ate was a little guacamole on top of my hamburger with no bun. I know guacamole has good fats in it, but the salt in it was not the best. I know I should have drank more water, but when my day is off a little I forget to have the container of water right in front of me and then I don't drink as much. Monday was also a very unscheduled day and I worked out but not until after my kids' tee ball game, at least I worked out! Two months ago I would have been thrown off schedule and I wouldn't have gone to the gym Sunday or Monday and I would have eaten all I wanted on Sunday, because it was a holiday. Then it would have taken me two more weeks to get back on a schedule. I realized that eventhough the days didn't go exactly as planned, I still made time to get to the gym, I didn't eat off the plan and I got back on track with my workout schedule. I'm proud of myself for getting a little off track but getting right back on! Problems, kids, work & life will get in the way - I know it is up to me to immediately get right on track. This is the only way I will never be overweight and unhealthy again!
