My "Hard Core" Workout With Tonya

7.1.10

Wow, Wow, Wow - that is all I can say, Tonya works the crap out of you! Sweating a ton, crying, feeling pain in my sore muscles - all of it makes me feel GREAT! Today I had a double workout. First, I got up earlier to pack my breakfast & lunch. This is how I know I've changed. In the past I would not have thought out my entire day and packed a cooler with healthy foods to take with me. So, my day went like this: I ran 3.5 miles this morning with Tonya at Sedgwick County Park. We got done around 7:15 and I needed to be back on the west side by 10:30 for our "Hard Core" workout. Instead of going home to the east side and back I packed my blender, berries & protein powder for my breakfast and in my cooler packed grilled chicken with mixed veggies (the night before I grilled out mushrooms, peppers, onions and shrimp). I went to a friends house to make my shake. Then I hung out for a little bit, ran some errands and then met Tonya. On the way to my workout with Tonya I went through the Wendy's drive thru - this was my first time in three weeks (since I started this journey) that I've been to a fast food resturant. No need to worry - I just needed a bottle of water:) Of course, my workout with Tonya was very intense. She pushes me way past my comfort level but also to a place where I recognize qualities that I haven't seen in myself in a long time. As I'm crying on top of the picnic table (after holding planks and doing core work, this is after sprints with weights, running up a hill 10 times, pushing a stroller full of weights up another hill, squats, lunges and the list goes on) I told Tonya that I am finding the strong person that I used to be and whom I want to be. On a funny note, I asked two ladies in the park to rescue me as Tonya was "working me to death" - I know that everything Tonya does to me, for me or with me is in my best interest. I totally trust her and have faith in myself that I will reach my goals and live a healthier life. Thanks Tonya for all you've done for me! After my workout I picked my kids up from granny & papa's house, where they spent the night. It was now noon and I new I couldn't wait another hour to eat. Eventhough it was a pain to get up early to pack my foods, I'm so glad that I did it. Cheers to a healthier ME!

Just Keep Swimming

As a Guest Blogger, I, the crazy sister-in-law to Krista and even crazier best buddy to Tonya am behind this mission coming together so these two fabulous people can show just how great I have always known they ARE!

At the first meeting, I was there and heard Tonya suggest Krista train for a marathon....both are eyes bugged out a bit!  But we both trust Tonya and her expertise, so I agreed to train to run the marathon with her!  I am 7 and a half months post-partum from my second baby, so this will help me regain some strength and muscles I lost during my pregnancies (my kiddos are 18 months apart).  It hasn't been easy and I am struggling with the idea of run/walking 26 miles but I believe so much in Krista that if she can, I will!

SO this is a picture (as unflattering as it is!) of me running in the rain today...7 miles in the rain today.  Soaked to the bone but happy to have accomplished it!  Thank you Krista for the inspiration and Tonya for the crazy idea that we CAN do this!  Her support as a trainer is unbelievable and both of their friendships fuel my happiness and crazy drive to JUST KEEP SWIMMING! (finding nemo mantra for those of you without kids!)

Good Run On Saturday; Not So Good Today!

6.29.10

I was so excited and suprised when I ran 6 miles without stopping on Saturday!!! It felt so good and I felt like I could keep going - was such a good day. However, this morning it was very hard to do 3.5 miles. I felt like my legs wouldn't go, I felt very sluggish. Like Tonya said at least I'm getting a hard run out of the way. My friend Tina ran with me and she did so Awesome! Through this journey she has been so supportive and I appreciate it so much - Thanks Tina!!! This week I started one shake a day, two meals and two snacks. I hope the scale is nice to me this week, if not I hope my inches lost are impressive. Tomorrow is cross training and then Thursday I will run 3.5 miles, and do a workout with Tonya (everybody pray for me:) - then this weekend I will run 7 miles! Again....I CAN do this!

Surprising Krista at the gym...

It was great to see the look on Krista's face when I surprised her at the gym today at 6:30am!!!  She had no idea I would be there!  I saw her on the treadmill and ran up beside her.  I am so glad she did not fall of the treadmill when I surprised her.  She was reading Jillian's new book!
Of course I had to make her speed a little faster- wasn't quiet going fast enough!:)  I promise you can always push yourself a little more!!!

Krista is doing great!  She has a 3.5 mile run tomorrow!  A cross training day on Wed. and then a 3.5 mile run and workout with me on Thursday!  She has been nothing but dedicated!  She even had an anniversary party to attend on Sat. evening and did not give in.  She was tempted with a lot of unhealthy food and drinks but stood her ground and respected herself!  I am so proud to hear that she was getting compliments on how she was glowing and positive feedback about her life long journey!

Keep it up Krista!  You are doing great!  I am so proud of you!!!

Tonya

My Naked Pantry!

6.25.10

Tonya came over this evening and NOW my pantry is Naked! We went through my pantry and got rid of all the bad, unhealthy processed foods. For instance, no more white bread, pasta shells (unless whole wheat), NO MORE chips, juice (even if it's for the kids - it's totally unhealthy for them as well), canned foods like cream of mushroom/chicken (I knew this was going to be a big no,no - but I know most of you have all of this in your pantry too). Not me anymore - and I feel good about it. On the other hand, it has been harder for my husband and kids to adapt to all MY changes. I say my changes, because even though we are in this together, we didn't get here overnight. I made a decision for myself and had to change overnight. It will take them longer, but I think they will see - The positive changes will be a GOOD impact on our family. Going to bed as I gear up for a 6 mile run in the morning...........a little nervous as I tried 5 miles last Sunday and did not do good at all. I ran 3 miles, walked .5 mile ran, walked etc......being positive....tomorrow will be a good run day!

The First Workout With Tonya

The Journey

"When are you due?" This is a question I've been asked too many times....and I'm NOT Pregnant. I don't like the way I look, the way I feel and I'm going to do something different for myself, for my family, for my daughter who watches and looks up to me. -Krista Hunt

Many women across the country are stuck in an unhealthy rut that they would love to change. In today's society, with the pressures of work, family and juggling everyday life, a person's health becomes last on their "checklist," leading them down a path of unhealthy living. Local business owner, Krista Hunt will take a four month journey with local fitness trainer, Tonya Wells to help transform her chaotic life, inside and out. Her goal is to lose 45 lbs. and run/walk a full marathon on 10.10.10 (Prairie Fire Marathon). In weekly training sessions, Tonya will push Krista outside her comfort zone, getting to the root of the issues in her life which affected her health and happiness. The introduction of new exercises and eating habits will help give Krista the tools for an emotionally and physically healthier lifestyle.
