Life is Crazy.....but Healthy!

09.29.10

Sorry, Sorry to all for not blogging lately!!! Life, as you can probably relate, is just CRAZY!!! However, to bring you up to date I am focusing on our Marathon on 10.10.10 - I have had a recent knee or IT band injury that has kept me from running. I am giving my knee/body all the rest, ice, stretching etc. that it needs, hoping.....I will be great on marathon day! As for me personally - I'm very, very stressed right now with work, kids, family and regular life! I'm trying really hard to concentrate on my eating, exercising and keeping positive thoughts. I'm proud of myself for keeping me first on the list during a very busy time of year. I'm not perfect and have had some slip-ups but I'm far from the person I was 3.5 months ago - I love the new me eventhough every day it is a tough battle to have meals prepared, snacks prepared, blender packed with me on the go, getting up early for workouts, sore muscles, writing in my journal etc. - AND it is all worth it for me to be Healthy and Happy!

Stress, stress, stress!

I know it has been awhile since I have blogged and I apolgize for that.

Our bodies react to stress like you wouldn't believe!  And our bodies don't know the difference between stress from home, work, kids, working out too much, etc.  I feel like I have been getting this question a lot lately...I am just so stressed, etc and I don't understand why I'm not losing weight.  Well, I can tell you.  Your body doesn't like stress but there are ways to help reduce stress which will then help you lose the weight.

Stress and weight gain (or lack of weight loss) go hand in hand. Though you may not be aware of it, being under constant stress can increase production of the hormone cortisol which can cause an increase in appetite as well as extra fat storage around the abdominal region--a big no-no since abdominal fat is linked to diabetes, high cholesterol and other health problems.

Everyone is different.  As a personal trainer I would of course say exercise is the best way to reduce stress.
One way to take control of the stress in your life is through physical activity. Being active can boost your feel-good endorphins and distract you from daily worries. - According to the Mayo Clinic.

But some stress their body out BY exercising so they may need a different approach.

Here are some things to try to reduce stress.  Again it is all up to you- I am just giving you some suggestions!

1.  Laughter
2.  Rest/sleep
3.  Keep a journal
4.  Exercise
5.  Eat healthy
6.  Get a hobby
7.  Plan out your day/week
8.  Go out on a date or with friends
9.  Get a massage
10.  Cut back on work hours

Just like how I preach you will not see the weight come off or the inches go down if you are not CONSISTENT in living a healthier lifestyle (working out/eating healthy) you will need to be consistent with whatever works for you in reducing your stress!  It probably won 't work if you just do it every now and then.

It doesn't hurt to try something on the list.  You may have to try more than one- who knows???

New Goals For The Next 5 Weeks!

9.5.10

I can't believe that I did it!!! I ran 16 miles - Thank you Tina for running the first 6 with me and Thank you Tonya for running the last 10, even when you weren't feeling well!!! I am so proud of myself that I did it and did it pretty well. The last few miles were a killer for me but It wasn't bad. Now, I am definitely sore....but I feel GREAT! In 5 weeks Tonya and I will be doing the FULL Marathon.......I'm very nervous but I know we will get through it. I've set some new goals for the next 5 weeks........One goal is to really buckle down and try and lose 10 pounds in the next 5 weeks. Through this process it has been very challenging for me to lose the pounds. I've done pretty good on losing the inches, so I really want to lose 2 pounds a week. My 2nd goal is to get my visceral fat down to 6. Within 2 weeks of starting this program my visceral fat went from an 8 to a 7 and now I've been stuck - trying hard to get it to a 6. My final goal is to lose 5 more inches. That is 1 inch a week - making my total inches lost - 22inches. Looking forward to a positive and productive next 5 weeks..............and beyond!

This Is The Time Of Year I Always Fall Off The Bandwagon!

8.24.10

This is the time of year that I ALWAYS fall off the bandwagon. Life, in August, gets so hectic with preschool starting, back to school shopping at our store, new lines coming in, believe it or not holiday shopping is beginning - it is just a very busy, busy time. I will not and can not let myself crash NOW or anytime in the future. I totally owe it to myself to stick with healthy eating and exercising. The last three weeks have been the worst for me in terms of NOT being prepared with my food, not drinking enough water, not writing in my journal, not blogging enough, not eating my snacks - some days I don't eat enough to even lose weight and some days I eat more - I'm feeling very screwed up. So, I have to fight through this tough time - FOR ME!!! This past Saturday I ran 14 miles. Getting up to 12 miles was the easiest it's ever been, however, the last 2 miles were sooo hard. I walked more than ran. Tonight, since it rained this morning, and Thursday I will run 6.5 miles and this weekend I will do 15 miles. Of course, cross training on the opposite days and will do a "hard core" workout with Tonya. So, I will be leaving work soon, running and then grilling my meat and veggies for the week. It's all about being prepared. The biggest change for me is that I'm recognizing, on my own, that I was going in the wrong direction and I instantly put myself going back the right direction. It happens! We are all human and not perfect. We just have to remember when life gets hectic to still think of ourself - I'm a much better wife, mother and person because of it!

My First Half Marathon...I Did It!!!

8.17.10

I did it - My first Half Marathon!!! It was very hard, but very rewarding. Thank you Tonya for pushing me this far and thanks Christina for running the last 1.5 miles with us. There were 2 things that were horrible for my first half.....One: we ran on dirt roads with rocks for most of the race, Second: I crossed the finish line, mentally and physically, thinking I was done - BUT, I wasn't. Tonya looked at her watch and we had only done 11.6 miles. Seriously, I had tears in my eyes when she said, "Put your shoes back on we didn't come all this way to not run a half marathon." I thought I was going to hit someone.....but now I'm VERY glad that she made me do the last 1.5 miles. Now, I just need to figure out what is going on with my feet. As I've said in past blogs my feet go numb around mile 3 but by mile 6 they hurt so bad that I can barely walk on them. So, when I know I'm going a long, long distance then I stop after mile 4, stretch, and then keep going. I have to do this about every 2 to 3 miles to make it to the end. I will be calling the doctor to see what they can do to help me! Now, I will be training for the Full Marathon on 10.10.10 - Yeah!!!
