My First Half Marathon...I Did It!!!
8.17.10
I did it - My first Half Marathon!!! It was very hard, but very rewarding. Thank you Tonya for pushing me this far and thanks Christina for running the last 1.5 miles with us. There were 2 things that were horrible for my first half.....One: we ran on dirt roads with rocks for most of the race, Second: I crossed the finish line, mentally and physically, thinking I was done - BUT, I wasn't. Tonya looked at her watch and we had only done 11.6 miles. Seriously, I had tears in my eyes when she said, "Put your shoes back on we didn't come all this way to not run a half marathon." I thought I was going to hit someone.....but now I'm VERY glad that she made me do the last 1.5 miles. Now, I just need to figure out what is going on with my feet. As I've said in past blogs my feet go numb around mile 3 but by mile 6 they hurt so bad that I can barely walk on them. So, when I know I'm going a long, long distance then I stop after mile 4, stretch, and then keep going. I have to do this about every 2 to 3 miles to make it to the end. I will be calling the doctor to see what they can do to help me! Now, I will be training for the Full Marathon on 10.10.10 - Yeah!!!

MORE LOSSES!

Krista is gearing up for her very first 1/2 marathon!!!
I am so excited for her! Last year she had a goal to do the Wichita 1/2 Marathon and didn't do it! So this is so BIG FOR HER!!!
We will take lots of pictures and post them!
If you are gearing up for a 1/2 marathon make sure you plan EVERYTHING! What you are going to take to the race. When you are going to wake up. Get plenty of rest the whole week (not just the night before). Do not eat anything different two days before the race! To learn more about running and racing come and join Momsinmotion- Wichita's Running/Walking Club!!! Christina from our group will also be doing the race with us!!!
Look for pictures and possibly video coming soon!!!
Keep on running,
Tonya
Vacation Was Fun.....Back To Regular Schedule!
8.7.10
Hi Everyone - I've been on vacation with my kiddos. We've been visiting my grandparents in Bella Vista, Arkansas. I didn't do too bad while I was gone, however my daily schedule was outta wack. The best part for me is that my grandma is one of the best eaters on earth. She is the cutest, 100 pound little thing - and was great in helping to keep me on track. She lives on the golf course so it was wonderful to get up and run the golf course early in the morning and I did other exercises that Tonya had scheduled for me. My knee started to hurt (which is so odd because I've never had knee problems) after a few days, not sure if I'm just not used to all the hills when running but I had to take it a little easy when it came to exercising. I plan to run 7 miles tomorrow morning and hopefully my knee will be great (as I've been resting and icing it). While on vacation I got to focus on reading Jillian Michaels book, Master Your Metabolism. I started reading it a few months ago and just haven't had time. While we were at the pool I read this book - it is sooo good with lots of great information. I highly recommend this book. I also found healthy recipes, approved by Tonya, that I can start making. With the help of my grandma and aunt we made Chicken and Black Bean Burritos with Pinapple Salsa. I wished you could have seen this. It took me forever to make this recipe, I made a huge mess on the floor, cabinets etc. pans everywhere - But, it was soooo good and healthy. I now know how to make it and when I do it won't take long at all. So, slowly I am trying new recipes to master and incorporate them into our daily lives. My plan this week is to get ready for my half marathon next weekend. Tonya has a mild schedule prepared for me this week in preparation for the half. My week will be crazy as we have our 2nd Annual Pamper Me Back To School Event this week. All the girls ages 3 and up - get manicures, pedicures and facials in our Party Room. We did over 125 kids last year and plan to do more this year. So, I'm planning my workouts and nutrition around this event. Eventhough it will be a busy, tiring week - I have to put myself first and get geared up for my Half Marathon!

Plan, plan, plan...EVERYTHING!
What do I mean by PLAN?
Well let me give you an example!
Would you like it if you sent your child to school and their teacher (any grade or preschool) did not do lesson plans? If the teacher just did what she/he wanted whenever??? Do you think you would be happy as a parent or do you think they would have a job after their Principal found out they didn't make lesson plans? NO, they wouldn't and you would not be happy!!!
Planning our days as moms is NO DIFFERENT! Think for a second, if you didn't plan out what you were doing in a day- how chaotic would your day be??? I'm guessing it would be VERY chaotic!!!
So when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle you HAVE TO PLAN!
PLAN WHEN/WHERE/TIME YOU ARE GOING TO WORKOUT
PLAN WHEN/WHERE/TIME/HOW MUCH/EMOTIONS YOU ARE GOING TO EAT
PLAN WHEN YOU WILL JOURNAL
PLAN FUN FAMILY ACTIVITIES THAT INVOLVES MOVEMENT
I know what you may be thinking...this is A LOT! Yes, it is. Nobody said it was going to be easy. Just like a teacher's job is not always easy and being a mom isn't always easy but once you get into a routine of your PLAN it does get easier. Will you have set backs- YES! But you learn from them and keep thinking positive! So this weekend I want everyone to plan their week!!! That is your homework!!!
Have a great weekend,
Tonya

The Journey
Many women across the country are stuck in an unhealthy rut that they would love to change. In today's society, with the pressures of work, family and juggling everyday life, a person's health becomes last on their "checklist," leading them down a path of unhealthy living. Local business owner, Krista Hunt will take a four month journey with local fitness trainer, Tonya Wells to help transform her chaotic life, inside and out. Her goal is to lose 45 lbs. and run/walk a full marathon on 10.10.10 (Prairie Fire Marathon). In weekly training sessions, Tonya will push Krista outside her comfort zone, getting to the root of the issues in her life which affected her health and happiness. The introduction of new exercises and eating habits will help give Krista the tools for an emotionally and physically healthier lifestyle.
